Body - Water Leakage

SOURCE: Kia Technician Times

TITLE: Water Leakage

APPLIES TO: 98 Sephia

SERVICE TIP:

CONDITION

Some 1998 Sephia owners have experienced water leakage into the passenger footwell area. In some cases, the leakage can be extensive.

CAUSE

This condition is caused by an insufficient seal between the baffle cover under the cowl vent and the body opening.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

1. Remove the right cowl grille and the baffle cover.

2. Remove all sealant from the body area and the baffle cover. Thoroughly clean the area of the baffle cover and the body opening.

3. Apply a high quality silicone/sealant to the baffle cover and body area.

4. Install the baffle cover and allow the sealant to properly cure.
5. Using a stream of water, verify the area is sealed properly and that there is no water leakage into the passenger compartment.
6. Re-install the right cowl grille.
