Main Control Valve Body Overhaul

NOTICE:
- Each valve should slide in/out under its own weight.
- When a valve will not slide in/out under its own weight, depending on the valve, push it out with a wire or replace the valve body open-side down and lightly tap it with a soft hammer.
- If a valve surface or bore is scratched or damaged, replace the control valve body.
- Do not drop or lose the valves or internal parts.
- Before assembly, make sure all parts are thoroughly clean.
- Apply ATF to all parts and bores.
- Note the proper direction of the valves and internal parts.
- Do not reuse any part that has been dropped.
- Wrap a screwdriver or rod with tape before using it to insert a valve.

DISASSEMBLY
1. Disassemble in the order shown.

INSPECTION
1. Inspect all parts and repair or replace as necessary.





2. Measure the spring free lengths.
3. If not within specification, replace the spring(s).

2-3 Timing Spring:
Outer Diameter - 0.315 inch (8.0 mm)
Free Length - 1.096 inch (27.84 mm)
Number Of Coils - 10.0
Wire Diameter - 0.031 inch (0.8 mm)
3-2 Timing Spring:
Outer Diameter - 0.315 inch (8.0 mm)
Free Length - 1.180 inch (29.98 mm)
Number Of Coils - 10.0
Wire Diameter - 0.031 inch (0.8 mm)
Pressure Regulator Spring:
Outer Diameter - 0.453 inch (11.5 mm)
Free Length - 1.346 inch (34.2 mm)
Number Of Coils - 9.5
Wire Diameter - 0.039 inch (1.0 mm)
1-2 Shift Spring:
Outer Diameter - 0.291 inch (7.4 mm)
Free Length - 1.441 inch (36.6 mm)
Number Of Coils - 12.0
Wire Diameter - 0.031 inch (0.8 mm)
Low Reducing Spring:
Outer Diameter - 0.311 inch (7.9 mm)
Free Length - 1.358 inch (34.5 mm)
Number Of Coils - 11.0
Wire Diameter - 0.031 inch (0.8 mm)
3-4 Shift Spring:
Outer Diameter - 0.291 inch (7.4 mm)
Free Length - 1.441 inch (36.6 mm)
Number Of Coils - 12.0
Wire Diameter - 0.031 inch (0.8 mm)

ASSEMBLY

NOTE: Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.





1. Insert the 3-4 shift spring, 3-4 shift valve, and stop plug. Secure them with the stop pin.
2. Insert the low reducing spring, low reducing valve, and stop plug. Secure them with the stop pin.
3. Insert the 1-2 shift spring, 1-2 shift valve, and stop plug. Secure them with the stop pin.





4. Insert the pressure regulator valve, pressure regulator spring, pressure regulator spring seat, regulator plug sleeve, pressure regulator plug, and stop plug. Secure them with the roll pin.
5. Insert the 3-2 timing valve and 3-2 timing spring. Secure them with the spring retainer.





6. Insert the 2-3 timing valve and 2-3 timing spring (if equipped). Secure them with the spring retainer.
7. Proceed to insert the manual valve.
