SERVICE TIP:
CONDITION
Some 1997 vehicles have exhibited excessive HLA noise (clatter) during sustained highway speeds.
CAUSE
The vehicles' engine is filled with oil at the factory. This particular factory fill oil may be foaming during high RPM engine operation, causing air to become trapped in the HLAs.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1. Change the oil and filter using the correct viscosity oil as recommended in the owners' manual.
2. Start the engine and check for leaks.
3. Hold engine RPM at 4000 for 5 minutes to bleed out any air trapped in the HLAs.
