Wiper and Washer Systems: Service and Repair
Removal and Installation1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove components in the order shown in the figure.
3. Install in the reverse order of removal.
REMOVAL
Wiper motor
1. Disconnect the wiper motor electrical connector.
2. Remove the wiper motor installation bolts.
3. Disconnect the wiper motor from the wiper motor link assembly with a screw driver.
4. Remove the wiper motor from the cowl panel.
NOTICE
Do not remove the wiper motor and crank arm unless necessary; the automatic stop angle is fixed.
Wiper arm and wiper blade
1. With the wipers in the parked position, remove the wiper arm cap.
2. Remove the nut shown in the figure.
3. Carefully remove the wiper arm and wiper blade.
Cowl plate
1. Remove the caps and then remove the screws.
2. Remove the cowl plate.
Wiper linkage assembly
1. Remove the nut and washer.
2. Disconnect wiper linkage assembly from the cowl panel.
Washer fluid tank
1. Remove the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the two bolts, and lift out the washer fluid tank.
3. Disconnect the washer pump motor connector and washer fluid line.
Operational check of linkage assembly
1. Check to be sure that the linkage assembly operates smoothly. If not, apply grease to places shown in the figure.
Wiper blade replacement
1. Raise the wiper arm, compress the plastic retaining lever, and then slide the blade assembly toward the cowl. Remove the blade from the arm.
2. Check the condition of the wiper blade assembly, and replace, if necessary.
3. Install blade by reversing removal procedure.
INSTALLATION
Wiper motor
1. Replace the wiper motor onto the cowl panel.
2 . Connect the wiper motor to the wiper motor link assembly.
3 . Install the wiper motor installation bolts.
4. Reconnect the wiper motor electrical connector.
Tightening torque:
86-132 ft-lb (9.8-15 N.m)
Linkage assembly
1. Reconnect the wiper linkage assembly to the cowl panel.
2. Install the nut and washer.
Installation note
1. Installation of linkage assembly:
(a) Install the linkage assembly in through the left side of the cowl panel.
(b) Align the boss on the linkage assembly with the mounting holes in the cowl, and then retain the linkage assembly with the washers and nuts.
Tightening torque:
61-86 in-lb (6.9-9.8 N.m)
2. Reconnection of the linkage joint and wiper motor drive.
(a) Fully extend the linkage assembly.
(b) Align the drive tangs and linkage slots, and then retain the linkage with washers and nuts.
Tightening torque:
61-86 in-lb (6.9-9.8 N.m)
(c) Reconnect the wiper motor connector and move the wiper motor to the automatic stop position.
3. Installation of wiper arm and wiper blade:
(a) Rotate linkage pivots to the park position.
(b) Replace the wiper arm and wiper blade.
(c) Replace the nut shown in the figure.
Tightening torque:
86-132 ft-lb (9.8-15 N.m)
(d) Replace the wiper arm cap.
ADJUSTMENT
Washer spray
1. Adjust the direction of the washer spray pattern by inserting a needle, or similar object, into the spray hole of the nozzle and pivoting the nozzle. The pattern should fall in the area shown in the illustration.
