Removal









1. Disconnect the negative battery cable (first), then the positive battery cable.
2. To remove the air cleaner assembly, remove the IAC and PCV hoses, disconnect the air intake tube from the throttle body, the connector from the MAF sensor, and three mounting bolts.
3. Remove two bolts and battery hold down and remove the battery.
4. Remove four bolts and the battery tray.
5. Remove seven bolts (four to the body, three to the transaxle) and remove #4 engine mount.
6. Remove the A/T control cable and bracket from throttle body.
7. Disconnect the EGR to the exhaust manifold nut.
8. Disconnect the two EGR tube to the intake manifold bolts.
9. Disconnect the bolt from the EGR bracket and remove the EGR tube.
10. Disconnect the input/turbine speed sensor connector.
11. Disconnect the ground strap from top of transaxle (one bolt).
12. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor connector from the right side of the transaxle.
13. Remove the U-clip from the selector cable to transaxle linkage.
14. Remove the split pin from the selector cable to transaxle linkage.
15. Remove the washer from the linkage.
16. Disconnect the transaxle range switch connector.
17. Disconnect the solenoid valve connector.
18. Remove two upper converter housing bolts (top two).
19. Raise and properly support the vehicle.
20. Place a drain pan under the transaxle drain plug.
21. Remove the transaxle drain plug and allow the automatic transaxle fluid to fully drain.
22. Remove both front wheels (four lug nuts each).
23. Remove the two drivers side wheel well splash shields (seven bolts).
24. Remove the gravel shield from under the engine.
25. Remove the converter housing access cover and remove the four drive plate-to-torque converter mounting bolts. Rotate the engine at the crank pulley to gain access to all four bolts.
26. Remove four bolts and remove the intake manifold support bracket from the rear of the engine below the intake manifold.
27. Remove three starter bolts and pull the starter away.

NOTICE: Suspend the starter so that there is no tension on the wire harness.

28. Remove the four catalytic converter bolts (two front, two rear) and remove the catalytic converter.
29. Remove five engine oil pan-to-transaxle mounting bolts and the bottom two converter rousing bolts.





30. Remove both the right and left tie rod ends from the steering knuckles by removing one cotter pin and one nut each.
31. Disconnect the stabilizer bar by removing a bolt and a nut.





32. Disconnect the pinch bolt and nut from both the right and left ball joints. Separate the ball joints from the control arms.
33. Remove joint shaft support bracket from engine block (three bolts).





34. Gently pry both driveshafts from the transaxle.





35. Install SST K94A-420-AT to prevent the side gears from becoming misaligned.
36. Remove two nuts from the #2 engine mount-to-mounting member.
37. Remove two nuts from the # 1 engine mount-to-mounting member.
38. Place a drain pan under the transaxle oil cooler lines where they connect to the transaxle.
39. Remove the transaxle oil cooler lines from the transaxle and allow them to drain fully.
40. Remove two remaining converter housing bolts.
41. Support the engine with a floor jack or engine hoist.
42. Support (and secure if possible) the transaxle with a transaxle jack or suitable floor jack.





43. Remove four engine mounting member-to-chassis bolts (two front) and nuts (two rear) and remove the mounting member.
44. Slowly lower the drive train, allowing the transaxle to tilt toward the ground.
45. Gently separate the transaxle from the engine and pull the unit out through the wheel well.
