INSPECTION

CAUTION: Place the vehicle on a flat, level surface.

1. Apply the parking brake and position wheel chocks securely to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
2. Warm-up the engine until the ATF reaches 140 - 158° F (60 - 70° C).

3. While the engine is idling, shift the selector lever from P to L and back to P.
4. Let the engine idle.
5. Shift the selector lever to P.

NOTICE: Use the COOL 68° F (20° C) range only as a rough reference.

6. Ensure that the ATF level is in the HOT 149° F (65° C) range. Add ATF to specification, if necessary.

ATF type: M-III or Dexron(R) III

FLUID CONDITION

NOTICE: Carefully check the condition of the ATF and determine whether or not the automatic transaxle should be disassembled. If the ATF is muddy and varnished, it could indicate burned drive plates or brake band.

1. Check the ATF for discoloration.
2. Check the ATF for any unusual smell.

Check for transaxle fluid leaks at the points shown and repair or replace as necessary. Additionally, check all of the following:
