Front Suspension






DISASSEMBLY
Disassemble in the order shown in the figure, refer to DISASSEMBLY NOTE.

DISASSEMBLY NOTE:
Piston Nut





1. Secure the mounting block in a vise.

NOTICE: Use protective plates to cover the jaws of the vise.

2. Loosen the piston retaining nut a few turns.

NOTICE: Do not remove the nut.





3. Compress the coil spring with the Special Service Tool (SST) (or equivalent).
4. Remove the retaining nut.
5. Remove the mounting block, noting its orientation. Remove the coil spring.





INSPECTION
Visually inspect each part and replace as necessary.
1. Check for the following and replace the strut if necessary:
a. Attach a handle to the piston rod, and then collapse and expand the strut at least three times.
b. Verify that the operational force is smooth, continuous, and does not change with each stroke.
c. Verify that there is no unusual noise from within the strut.


ASSEMBLY
Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly, refer to ASSEMBLY NOTE.

ASSEMBLY NOTE:





1. Secure the shock absorber in a vise.

NOTICE: Use protective plates to cover the jaws of the vise.

2. Compress the coil spring with the SST (or equivalent).
3. Install the coil spring, locating the bottom end of the spring into the recess of the lower seat.
4. Install the rebound stopper.





5. Apply rubber lubricant to the rebound stopper and the upper spring seat contact surface.
6. Install the upper spring isolator and the upper spring seat.
7. Install the mounting block, pointing the direction indicator at its original location.
8. Install the washer and then install and slightly tighten the piston retaining nut.
9. Carefully loosen and remove the SST (or equivalent).

NOTICE: Verify that the coil spring is correctly seated in the upper and lower seats.





10. Secure the mounting block in a vise.
11. Tighten the piston retaining nut to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 41-50 ft. lbs. (55-68 Nm)
12. Install the cap over the nut.
