General Description
Fig. 1 SRS Component Locations:
The Air Bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is designed to supplement driver and front passenger seat belts during front-end collisions, reducing the risk of serious injury or death Collision-sensitive sensors are electrically connected in series with the air bags and the battery. When a frontal collision of sufficient force occurs, the contacts in the collision-sensitive sensors close, causing ignition in each of the air bags.
In the Multi-point Air Bag-SRS System (vehicles produced prior to January 9, 1996), the collision-sensitive sensors are located behind the front bumper. The Single-point Air Bag-SRS System (vehicles produced January 9, 1996 and later) have the collision-sensitive sensors located within the air bag diagnostic unit.
