Displaying & Reading Trouble Codes

There are two methods for displaying codes. How the underhood Data Link Connector, DLC, is wired determines the correct method. The Multi-Point Diagnostic method use a jumper wire between pins 6 and 12. There will wires found at pins 6, 13 and 14 from the Air Bag Diagnostic Unit, ADU.
The Single-Point method required the use of a scan tool. Pins 6 and 13 will not have wires from the Air Bag Diagnostic Unit, ADU. See Connector C125.






Multi-Point Diagnosis
1. Turn ignition switch to ON.
2. The Air Bag Indicator should illuminate. If it does not, Refer to Air Bag Indicator Service.
3. The Air Bag Indicator should go out within 8 seconds. If it stays out, the system is OK.
4. If the Air Bag Indicator remains illuminated or flashes, there is a problem in the Air Bag-Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.





6. Locate the data link connector (DLC) in the engine compartment and install a jumper wire between pins 6 (ADU) and 12 (G2).

Single-Point Diagnosis





1. Turn ignition switch to ON.
2. The Air Bag Indicator should illuminate. If it does not, see Air Bag indicator service, Testing and Inspection
3. The Air Bag Indicator should go out within 4-8 seconds. If it stays out, the system is OK.
4. If the Air Bag Indicator remains illuminated, there is a problem in the Air Bag-Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
6. Locate the data link connector (DLC) in the engine compartment and install the Kia Data Pro Scan Tool.
7. Turn the ignition switch to ON and record any Diagnostic Trouble Codes displayed by the Kia Data Pro Scan Tool.
