Blower Motor Does Not Operate

Step 1: Check fuses

1. Check the HEATER and WIPER fuses.
2. If a fuse is open, check for a short-circuit in the wiring harness before replacing it.
3. If the fuses are OK, go to step 2.

Step 2: Check voltage at blower motor
1. Turn the ignition switch ON.
2. Turn the blower switch to Hi.

3. Measure the voltage at the following pin of blower motor connector C253.

Step 3: Check voltage at blower motor resistor assembly
1. Turn the ignition switch ON.
2. Turn the blower switch OFF and verify that the A/C switch is OFF

3. Measure the voltage at the following pins of resistor assembly connector C262.

Step 4: Check voltage at blower switch
1. Turn the ignition switch ON.
2. Turn the blower switch to OFF

3. Measure the voltage at the following pins of blower switch connector C263.

Step 5: Check ground at blower switch
1. Turn blower switch to OFF.

2. Use ohmmeter to check continuity from ground to indicated pin of blower switch connector C263.

Step 6: Check voltage at blower switch
1. Turn the ignition switch ON.
2. Turn the blower switch to indicated position and A/C switch to OFF.

3. Measure the voltage between battery voltage (pin 1 of C253) and the following pins of blower switch connector C263.

Step 7: Check voltage at fresh/recirculate actuator
1. Turn ignition to ON.
2. Set fresh/recirculate (FIR) switch to position indicated.

3. Measure the voltage at the following pins in the fresh/recirculate circuit (do not disconnect the connector).

4. If fresh/recirculate actuator does not work after the following checks, replace it.

Inspection

Fresh/Recirculate Actuator

1. Check continuity between terminals of the actuator.
2. If not as specified, replace actuator.
3. Proceed to step 8.

Step 8: Check ground at fresh/recirculate switch
1. Turn ignition switch to OFF.
2. Disconnect C283.

3. Use ohmmeter to check continuity between ground and indicated pin of temperature control connector C283.

Step 9: Check voltage at fresh/recirculate switch
1. Turn ignition switch to ON.
2. Set Fresh/Recirculate (FIR) switch to position indicated.

3. Measure the voltage between battery voltage (pin 2 of C240) and the following pins of the fresh/recirculate switch connector C282.

Inspection

Fresh/Recirculate Switch

1. Check continuity between pins of the switch connector.

2. If not as specified, replace switch.

Blower switch

1. Check continuity between terminals of the blower switch.
2. If not as specified, replace the blower switch.
3. Proceed to step 10.

Step 10: Troubleshooting Temperature Control and Air Mix actuator
