Brakes and Traction Control: Description and Operation

The Sephia brake system is hydraulic, relying on a non-compressible fluid to transmit brake pedal force to the wheel calipers and cylinders. A vacuum booster is employed to assist force applied to the brake pedal. To provide additional safety, the hydraulic system is divided into two circuits with a separate piston for each circuit located inside the single master cylinder. Illumination of the brake warning indicator in the instrument cluster is controlled by either the parking brake switch or the fluid level sensor in the master cylinder reservoir.
