Clutch Housing and Transaxle Case Components Disassembly






NOTICE: Do not remove an oil seal if not necessary.

1. Disassemble in the order shown, Refering to the Disassembly Notes.


DISASSEMBLY NOTES

Reverse Lever Shaft





1. Remove the roll pin with pliers.





2. Protect the reverse lever shaft with a rag and remove the shaft with pliers.

Oil Seal (Change Rod)
1. Remove the change rod end.
2. Remove the boot.





3. Remove the oil seal with a screwdriver.

Funnel And Bearing Outer Race (Secondary Shaft)





1. Remove the bearing outer race by lifting out the funnel and race together.

Oil Seal (Primary Shaft)

NOTICE: Do not damage the clutch housing.





1. Remove the oil seal with a screwdriver.

Oil Seal (Differential)





1. Remove the oil seal with a screwdriver.

Bearing Outer Race (Differential)





1. Install SST (or equivalent) to the bearing outer race.
2. Remove the bearing outer race with a suitable pipe.

Bearing Outer Race And Adjust Shim (Differential)





1. Install SST (or equivalent) to the bearing outer race.
2. Remove the bearing outer race and adjust shim.

Oil Seal Replacement (On-Vehicle)





1. Raise the vehicle and support it with safety stands.
2. Drain the transaxle oil.
3. Use the following procedure to replace the driveshaft oil seal.
A. Remove the front wheel.
B. Remove the splash shield.
C. Separate the front stabilizer from the lower arm.

NOTICE: Do not damage the dust boots.

4. Remove the pinch bolt and pull the lower control arm downward. Separate the steering knuckle from the lower control arm ball joint.





5. Remove the cotter pin from the nut. Loosen the nut and disconnect the tie-rod end with the SST (or equivalent).

NOTICE: Do not subject the tripod joint to shock when removing the driveshaft.





6. Disconnect the left driveshaft from the transaxle by prying with a bar inserted between the outer ring and the transaxle.
7. Suspend the driveshaft with a rope.
8. Remove three bolts and separate the joint shaft bearing support from the cylinder block.
9. Gently pry the joint shaft from the transaxle and suspend with a rope.





10. Remove the oil seal with a screwdriver.

NOTICE: Coat the oil seal lip with transaxle oil. Tap in until the oil seal installer contacts the case.





11. Tap the new oil seal into the transaxle case with the SST (or equivalent).
12. Replace the left driveshaft end clip with a new one.





13. Insert the driveshaft with the end gap of the clip facing upward.
14. Install the joint shaft into the transaxle.
15. Install the joint shaft support bearing mount onto the cylinder block with three bolts.

Tightening torque: 69-83 ft. lbs.
