Front
REMOVAL
1. Raise and properly support the front of the vehicle.
2. Remove the wheel to gain access to the sensor and its cable.
3. Remove the three rear-most screws that hold the inner plastic wheel-well splash shield in place. Pull the shield back to expose the sensor cable connector and disconnect it.
4. Bend back the three sensor cable retaining tabs located in the wheel well. Also, slide the three cable grommets out of their bracket slots.
5. Remove the single mounting bolt securing the wheel speed sensor and draw it out of its bore. Protect the sensor's body from damage when it is not being serviced.
INSTALLATION
1. Clean the body of the sensor and the bore into which it will install. Put a light coating of oil on the body of the sensor and install it into its bore. Retain it with the single mounting bolt.
- Tightening torque: 12-18 ft. lbs. (16-24 Nm).
2. Route the sensor cable around the strut and up to the hole in the wheel well. Starting at the sensor, locate the cable under the tab at the bottom of the strut (bend the tab down to secure the cable) and insert the three cable grommets into their slots on the strut bracket and the bracket on the wheel well. Route the cable under the tab above the wheel well bracket (bend tab down to secure the cable) and then attach to the inner wheel well using the clamp that is behind the strut.
3. Reconnect the sensor connector to its harness connector, being certain that the connectors are latched to each other.
4. Replace the inner plastic wheel-well splash shield and secure it with three screws.
5. Replace the wheel and lower the vehicle. Tighten the four lug nuts.
- Tightening torque: 72 ft. lbs. (98 Nm).
CAUTION: Be certain that the sensor cable is properly routed in wheel-well area. It should be held securely by the three tabs and there can be no excess slack that could allow cable to contact the moving wheel.
6. Verify the gap between the wheel speed sensor tip and the outside diameter of the sensor rotor.
- Sensor gap: 0.012-0.043 inches (0.3-1.1 mm).
