1996 Sephia Check Engine Light (MIL) - Misfire Diagnostic Trouble Codes

This bulletin provides information concerning a modification to the 1996 Sephia 1.8 liter engine wiring harness and includes wiring harness connector inspection and repair procedures.





Some 1996 Sephia models equipped with the 1.8 liter engine and produced between October 13, 1995 (KNAFA125XT5241493) and April 26, 1996 (KNAFA125XT5260145), may experience a condition where the Check Engine Light (MIL) illuminates and one or more engine misfire Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) (P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303 or P0304) is stored in the OBD-II system diagnostic memory.

The cause for the OBD-II System misfire DTC is incorrectly routed wires between the Crankshaft Position Sensor and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The mis-routed wires cause one or more misfire Diagnostic Trouble Codes to be incorrectly set when there is actually no engine misfire condition and tailpipe emission levels are not effected.

Use the procedures provided in this bulletin to inspect and if necessary, correct this mis-routed wire condition. Also, perform the procedures provided in this bulletin on all 1996 Sephia models (dealer inventory, customer vehicles, etc.) with production dates between October 13, 1995 and April 26, 1996.

SEPHIA ENGINE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION/REPAIR PREPARATION:

^ Confirm that the vehicle is a 1996 Sephia equipped with a 1.8 liter engine and within the affected VIN range.
