Lifter / Lash Adjuster: Service and Repair

NOTE: On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures. Hydraulic lash adjusters are used instead of hydraulic lifters.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove timing belt.
3. Remove camshafts.

4. Remove hydraulic lash adjusters, Fig. 12, noting the following:
a. Note original position of lash adjusters for installation purposes.
b. Store lash adjuster upside down in oil filled container.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Tighten all fasteners to specifications.
b. Apply new engine oil to new hydraulic lash adjusters.
6. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
