Shift Cable: Adjustments

Fig. 1 Pressure Testing:





1. Connect pressure test gauge tool No. 94-4214-AT, or equivalent, to inspection port, Fig. 1
2. Start engine and allow to idle in Park. Idle speed should be 700-800 RPM.

3. Loosen cable adjustment bolt No. 1, then bolt No. 2 as shown in Fig. 2
4. Ensure throttle is fully closed, then tighten bolt No. 1. Torque to 61--86 inch lbs.

5. Pull throttle cable in B direction, Fig. 3 until line pressure exceeds specified pressure, Fig. 4. If line pressure will not decrease to adjustment pressure (60 psi for 2 valve engines, 74 psi for 4 valve engines), tighten bolt No. 2 with line pressure at closest point to adjustment pressure. It must not be above maximum specified pressure. Torque to 61-86 inch lbs.
6. Pull throttle cable in A direction until line pressure decreases to adjustment pressure.
7. Torque bolt No. 2 to 61-86 inch lbs.
8. Turn off engine and ensure throttle cable moves smoothly
9. Restart engine and accelerate slightly, then allow to idle.
10. Ensure line pressure is within specifications. If not within specifications, readjust cable.
