Engine Controls - DTC P0440 and P0455

CONDITION

Some 1996 and 1997 vehicles have experienced repeat occurrences of "Check Engine" light illumination where a DTC P0440 (1996 models) or P0455 (1997 models) - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Gross Leak), was retrieved.

CAUSE






This condition is usually caused by fuel accumulation in the evaporative system vapor lines.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

For vehicles that have experienced repeat occurrences of these DTCs, reposition the fuel tank pressure sensor and install the revised evaporative emissions system hoses in accordance with TSB- Fuel System - 002.

NOTICE
- If DTC P0440 or P0455 reoccurs after incorporating TSB - Fuel System - 002, check all hoses/fittings for leaks and advise customer to make certain gas cap is tightly secured after refueling the vehicle.
- Refer to the DTC chart for further diagnostic information.
