Brake System - Vibration/Pulsation

SOURCE: Kia Technician Times

TITLE: Brake Vibration/Pulse

APPLIES TO: 95-97 Sephia

SERVICE TIP:

CONDITION

Some vehicles may experience brake pedal pulsation and/or front brake vibration.

CAUSE

Brake vibration/pulsation is usually caused by the rotor surfaces being out of parallel and/or excessive brake rotor runout. However, for vehicles that experience repeat vibration complaints after rotor resurfacing/ replacement, the cause may be due to excessive hub runout.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

1. Measure the hub runout from the outer edge of the hub. Maximum Runout: 0.002 inch (0.0508 mm)
2. If the hub runout is out of specification, replace the hub.
NOTICE
If you have a problem vehicle where the hubs checkout okay, but the vehicle still has brake vibration complaints, the cause may be the owners driving habits . Continuous stop and go driving or "riding" the brake causes high brake temperatures and resulting rotor warpage. In these cases, the 1998 Sephia brake rotor which has thicker braking surfaces can be used on 1997 and earlier vehicles to reduce rotor warpage.
