Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair

NOTE: On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.

1. Remove instrument panel in sequence shown in Fig. 1, noting the following:
a. Disconnect battery ground cable.
b. Remove steering column cover.
c. Remove steering wheel.
d. Remove instrument cluster bezel.
e. Remove screw from lower portion of combination switch, Fig. 2, then remove combination switch.
f. Remove instrument cluster screws, then pull instrument cluster forward to disconnect electrical connectors and speedometer cable.
g. Remove instrument cluster.
h. Remove installation bolts on underside of steering column and allow steering column to drop.
i. Remove heater and A/C control assembly.
j. Remove radio and cigarette lighter.
k. Remove defroster grille, then remove bolt at top center of I/P, Fig. 3.
l. Remove lower I/P bolts, Fig. 4.
m. Disconnect electrical connectors between I/P and dash harness.
n. Remove I/P mounting bolts, then remove instrument panel from vehicle.
2. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque top center I/P bolt to 3-5 ft. lbs.
b. Torque steering column bolts and lower I/P bolts to 6.5-9.4 ft. lbs.
3. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
