Throttle Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection
Throttle Body:
Sensor:
INSPECTION
1. Verify that the throttle valve is closed.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
3. Measure PCM terminal C254-11 voltage with throttle closed and wide open.
SPECIFICATION
- Closed throttle position: 0.1 - 1.1V
- Wide open throttle: 2.8 - 4.5V
(Verify that the voltage increase is directly proportional to the throttle valve opening angle.)
4. If not as specified, loosen the two sensor attaching screws and adjust the throttle position sensor. Refer to Closed Throttle Position Switch.
5. Tighten the attaching screws.
Tighten
Screws to 1.2 - 1.7 ft lb. (1.6 - 2.3 Nm)
6. If unable to adjust to specifications, replace the throttle position sensor as follows:
a. Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector.
b. Remove the attaching screws.
c. Remove the throttle position sensor.
d. Verify that the throttle valve is fully closed.
e. Open the throttle valve slightly and catch the tang of the throttle body on the new throttle position sensor plastic tabs. Align tang A on throttle body with tab A on throttle position sensor.
NOTICE: Tangs on The throttle body mate with the tab on the throttle position sensor on the edge of the tab without a slot.
f. Position the throttle position sensor on the throttle body so that the mounting holes align.
g. Install and hand tighten the attaching screws.
h. Release the throttle.
i. Adjust the throttle position sensor output voltage and close throttle position switch as above.
