Reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes

RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
1. Connect a scanner to the OBD-II DLC (Data Link Connector). The OBD-II DLC is located under the left side of the instrument panel, near the center console.
2. Start the engine.
3. Referring to the scan tool manufacturer's instruction manual, retrieve any DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).
4. Refer to Diagnostic Charts located in this section. Inspect and repair any applicable condition, as instructed.
5. When no further codes are presented, proceed to After Repair Procedure at the end of this section.

AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Cancel the memory of DTC's by disconnecting the negative battery cable for at least twenty seconds. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Locate the OBD-II DLC (data link connector) and plug an OBD-II scan tool into it.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
4. Start and warm engine, then run at 2,000 rpm for three minutes.
5. Following the scan tool manufactures instructions, verify that no DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes) are recorded.
6. If DTC's are recorded, refer to Diagnostic Charts located in this section.
