SUBJECT:
Owner Notification: Vehicle Emission Control Information Label

The underhood Vehicle Emission Control Information Label for 1995 Sephia models equipped with the 1.8L (BPD) engine contains an incorrect description. This incorrect label information could result in the inability of an owner to obtain or pass a vehicle inspection or registration renewal emission test.

To correct this situation, Kia is sending a revised Vehicle Emission Control Information Label to all affected Sephia owners, requesting that they attach the revised label over the existing label.

For dealer inventory and for owners requesting that a dealer install their label, refer to the information provided below:

Notice:
There is no charge to the customer for installation of their label Under applicable law you may not sell or otherwise deliver any affected Sephia until you have inspected and attached the revised label using the procedures.

Label Inspection Procedure:

1. Open the hood and locate the Vehicle Emission Control Information Label on the underside of the hood.

2. Inspect the label identifier in the upper right corner of the label. The chart defines the identifiers and indicates whether or not a new label must be attached.

A. If the identifier indicates that a revised label must be attached, continue on to "Label Attachment Procedures" below.

B. If the identifier indicates that a new label is not required, DO NOT ATTACH A NEW LABEL. If the vehicle was brought in by a customer, advise the customer that the campaign has already been completed then document this information on all copies of the repair order.

Label Attachment Procedures:

1. Using isopropyl alcohol, thoroughly clean any dirt, oil or other contamination from the surface and surrounding underhood area of the existing label.

2. Select the correct revised label as described in inspection Step 2 above then remove the adhesive protective paper from the back of the label.

Notice:
Avoid excessive finger contact with the adhesive backing on the revised label.

3. Carefully apply the revised label directly on top of the existing label.

Affected Production Range:

KNAFA1250S5227312 (3/21/95 production) through KNAFA1256S5241182 (9/28/95 production)
