Camshaft: Service and Repair
1. Remove timing belt.2. Remove distributor.

3. Using end wrench, hold camshaft cast hexagon, then remove camshaft pulley lock bolts, Fig. 33. then remove camshaft pulleys.
4. Loosen camshaft cap bolts in five or six steps in sequence, Fig. 34.

5. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Ensure hydraulic adjusters move smoothly in cylinder head bore.
b. Apply silicone sealant to camshaft bearing pad and distributor mounting cap pad areas, Fig. 35.
c. Install camshaft bearing caps by number with directional arrows facing forward.
d. Using sequence shown in Fig. 36, torque camshaft bearing cap bolts in five or six steps to 8-10 ft. lbs.
e. Using seal installation tool or equivalent, and a hammer, tap camshaft seal in place until flush with edge of camshaft bearing cap, Fig. 37. Repeat this step for second camshaft.
f. Install camshafts with camshaft dowel pins indexed straight up, Fig. 38.
g. Install camshaft pulleys, aligning I mark with intake camshaft dowel pin, and E mark with exhaust camshaft dowel pin, Fig. 38.
h. Install camshaft pulley lock bolts, then tighten to specifications.
i. Rotate camshafts so E mark on intake camshaft pulley is aligned with E mark on seal plate and I mark on exhaust camshaft pulley is aligned with I mark on seal plate, Fig.
6. Install timing belt.
