Lifter / Lash Adjuster: Service and Repair

NOTE: On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures. Hydraulic lash adjusters are used instead of hydraulic lifters.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Remove hydraulic lash adjusters in order shown in Fig. 12, noting the following:
a. Loosen rocker arm bolts in two or three steps in sequence shown in Fig. 13
b. Remove rocker arm and shaft assembly, then mark all rocker arms and springs to they can be installed in same position as removed.

3. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Pour new engine oil into oil reservoir in each rocker arm.
b. Apply new engine oil to new hydraulic lash adjusters.
c. Use caution to avoid damaging O-ring when installing hydraulic lash adjusters into each rocker arm.
d. Assemble rocker arm and rocker shaft assembly as shown in Fig. 14. Ensure both rocker arm shaft oil holes face downward.
e. Tighten rocker arm and rocker shaft assembly to specifications in incremental steps, in the sequence shown in Fig. 10.
f. Tighten to specifications.
4. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
