Inspection Procedure
The following Inspection Procedure provides a quick and accurate method for determining power window regulator type.1. Open a rear door and remove the hand cup retaining screw and the door release handle screw.
2. Using a suitable trim panel tool (similar to Snap-On tool number A177A) carefully release the door trim panel clips along the bottom of the trim panel.
3. Carefully pull the bottom edge of the trim panel approximately 6 in. away from the door.
4. With the aid of a light source, determine the power window regulator type.
^ Type 1 Window Regulators are identified by a black motor housing with a cable installed at each end of the window regulator channel. Only the lower cable will be visible from this viewpoint.
^ Type 2 Window Regulators are identified by a silver motor housing with both cables attached to the upper end of the window regulator channel. The cables will not be visible from this viewpoint.
NOTE:
Type 1 Window Regulators are easily identified by a single cable attached to the bottom end of the window regulator channel.
5. If a Type 1 Window Regulator is identified, replace the window regulators in all four doors with a Type 2 Window Regulator.
NOTE:
Do not replace any Type 2 Window Regulators. Refer to Front Door Replacement Procedure and Rear Door Replacement Procedure.
6. If a Type 2 Window Regulator is identified, replacement is not required.
Reinstall the door trim panel, hand cup retaining screw and door release handle screw.
