Air Induction System

DESCRIPTION
The air induction system supplies filtered air to the engine to mix with the fuel for combustion. It consists of:

- Air cleaner assembly
- Resonance chamber
- Mass air flow (MAF) sensor
- Throttle body
- Intake manifold
- Idle speed control (ISC) solenoid valve
- Air valve

OPERATION
The resonance chamber suppress air inlet noise caused by airflow pulsation.

The mass air flow (MAF) sensor is used to measure volume air flow passing into the engine. The Airflow meter detects the volume of air flow and notifies the ECM with an input signal.

The throttle body controls intake air quantities and consists of:

- Throttle Position (TP) sensor
- Dash pot
- Idle speed control solenoid valve

The idle air control system supplies small quantities of air during engine idle by regulating the amount of bypass air that passes through the throttle body. This system consists of the idle speed control valve and air valve. The throttle position (TP) sensor detects the throttle valve position and provides the ECM with this information.

The air valve supplies bypass air into the dynamic chamber when the engine is cold.
