Water Pump: Service and Repair

NOTE: On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain engine coolant.
2. Remove timing belt assembly as outlined under Timing Belt.
3. Remove water inlet pipe and gasket.
4. Remove water bypass pipe and O-ring.
5. Remove water pump mounting bolts.
6. Remove water pump and gasket.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Use a new O-ring and gasket.
b. Tighten to specifications.
c. Fill and bleed cooling system.
8. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
