Oil Pump: Service and Repair

NOTE: On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain engine oil.
2. Remove timing belt.
3. Remove oil pan and main bearing support as outlined under Oil Pan, Engine.

4. Remove oil pump bolts in numbered sequence shown in Fig. 26. Carefully remove oil seal with suitable screwdriver.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply small amount of clean engine oil to lip of new oil seal.
b. Push oil seal slightly in by hand. The oil seal must be pressed in until it is flush with edge of oil pump body.
6. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
