CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation:
The engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may be illuminated with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1254 stored in the Engine control module (ECM). This may be caused by the throttle limp home spring diagnostic incorrectly diagnosing a fault when there is none present.

CAUTION:
If DTC P1254 is present after performing the Repair Procedure outlined below, the ECM diagnosis of this fault is correct and must be investigated further.

Action:
In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below to update the ECM software.

IDS with latest DVD and Calibration Files; first available on IDS-DVD120_V6.04 Calibration File 27 Jaguar-approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

UPDATE THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE

CAUTION:
Ensure all ignition "ON" / ignition "OFF" requests are carried out; failure to perform these steps may cause damage to control modules in the vehicle.

CAUTION:
A Jaguar-approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during diagnosis / module programming.

1. Connect the Jaguar-approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply to the vehicle battery.

NOTE:
IDS must be loaded with IDS-DVD120_V6.04 or later and Calibration File 27 or later.

2. Connect the Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) to the vehicle and begin a new Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD) session.

3. Follow the on-screen prompts, allowing SDD to read the VIN and identify the vehicle.

4. From the Session Type selection screen, choose 'Diagnosis'.

5. Select the Selected Symptoms tab, and then select:

^ Electrical > Instruments > Warning Lamps > Engine Malfunction Lamp > Lamp Illuminated

6. Select 'continue'.

7. Select the Recommendations tab.

8. From the Recommendations tab, select Run to configure the Powertrain control module.

^ Follow all on-screen instructions to complete this task.

9. Exit the current session.

10. Disconnect the IDS and the Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply from the vehicle.
