Issue:
Vehicles after the above VIN are equipped with a nylon grease deflector ring on the rotor nut of each front hub. This ring prevents the build up of excess grease near the seal which could collect dirt that could damage the seal.

Action:
When performing a repair on a 1997 MY-on XK8 that requires removing the rotor nut, install a grease deflector ring during reassembly. 1998 MY-on vehicles must always have the deflector ring reinstalled during any service to the front hub.





The deflector ring is a light interference fit on the nut and must be installed 0.5 mm from the edge of the hub as shown in Illustration 1.
