Spring

Removal

CAUTION: Replacement of nuts and bolts: Various thread-locking devices are used on nuts and bolts throughout the vehicle. These devices restrict the number of times a nut or bolt can be used.

1. Remove front shock absorber.

NOTE: For assembly reference, record the number of turns of the tool handle it takes to release the spring pressure.





2. Release spring pressure.
- Attach tape to spring coil to reference position of spring compressors upper retaining arms.
- Rotate handle until spring pressure is released.

NOTE: For assembly reference, note the number of spring packers. The number of spring packers depends on the spring rating, some vehicles do not have spring packers fitted.





3. Disassemble spring assembly.
- Release lower retaining arms.
- Remove adapter tool.
- Remove spring pan.
- If fitted, remove spring packer(s).
- Remove spring packing washer.





4. Remove spring from spring compressor.
- Release upper retaining arms.
- Remove spring.

5. Transfer the position of the reference tape, from the existing spring to the new spring. Apply reference tape to the new spring.

6. Clean relevant parts.

Installation

NOTE: The fitted position of the packing washer must not be altered during assembly of the spring.





1. Fit packing washer and align to spring.
- Fit the packing washer so that the vertical claws grip the lower spring coil.
- Rotate the packing washer until the stop on the washer comes into contact with the end of the spring coil.





2. Position spring in spring compressor.
- Position spring.
- Position upper retaining arms so that they align with the tape reference markers.





3. Assemble spring.
- If fitted, position the spring packer(s).
- Fit spring pan.
- Position adapter tool to spring pan
- Position spring compressor lower arms behind adapter tool, make sure arms locate into adapter tool recesses.

NOTE: When compressing the spring, turn the tool handle the approximate number of turns it took to release the spring pressure, as noted in the removal procedure.





4. Compress spring.
- Rotate the tool handle.

5. Fit front shock-absorber.
