Ignition Lock Solenoid: Service and Repair
Removal
1. Remove the underscuttle.
2. Remove the steering column lower cowl.
3. Remove the steering column upper cowl.
4. Remove the ignition key.
5. Remove the battery cover.
6. WARNING: WAIT AT LEAST ONE MINUTE BEFORE STARTING WORK, BECAUSE THE AIR BAG IS EQUIPPED WITH A BACK-UP POWER SOURCE AND MAY BE INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED.
Disconnect the battery ground cable.
7. Remove the driver's air bag module; refer to Restraint Systems, Air Bag Systems. Air Bag Systems
8. Remove the steering wheel.
9. Remove the cassette and cancellation module.
10. Remove the steering column switchgear mounting bracket; refer to Steering and Suspension, Service and Repair.
11. Disconnect the wiring harness multiplug.
Cut the solenoid harness securing strap.
Disconnect the solenoid wiring harness multiplug.
12. Remove the solenoid from the lock housing.
Use a pin punch to drive out the pin securing to solenoid to the lock housing.
Withdraw the solenoid from the lock housing.
Installation
1. Install the solenoid to the steering lock housing.
Install and fully seat the solenoid to the steering lock housing.
Use a suitable pin punch to drive in a new pin to secure the solenoid to the lock housing.
2. Install the steering column switchgear mounting bracket; refer to Steering and Suspension, Service and Repair.
3. Install the cassette and cancellation module.
4. Install the steering wheel.
5. Install the air bag module; refer to Restraint Systems, Air Bag Systems. Air Bag Systems
6. Perform the Battery Reconnection Procedure.
7. Install the battery cover.
8. Install the underscuttle.
9. Install the steering column upper cowl.
10. Install the steering column lower cowl.
