Exhaust Manifold: Description and Operation

The thin walled cast iron manifolds are unique to each cylinder bank. On engines with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) the Bank 1 manifold has a transfer pipe connection. Spacers on the securing bolts allow expansion and retraction upon temperature changes whilst maintaining clamping loads. Heat shields are integrated in the exhaust manifold gaskets.
