Paint: Testing and Inspection
Surface Condition Appraisal
Substrate Assessment
Visual Assessment
Assess surface condition visually, looking for indications of potential post refinish problems, such as excessive film builds, cracking, poor adhesion, evidence of prior re finish.
Chemical Assessment
Test for prior air dry refinish substrate by rubbing with strong solvent.
Note: If substrate dissolves this indicates a Nitro Cellulose or Acrylic paint system has been used at some time.
Mechanical Assessment
Use paint thickness gauge to determine total thickness of paint on the metal surface.
Note: If film builds after refinish exceed this total, stripping back will be required as the stability of the total finish may be affected.
Subsequent stone chipping will result in excessive chip depth.
