Premium Sound System - Poor Mid-Range Speaker Performance - Incorrect Speakers Installed - Replace Speakers

Issue:

On some 2000-02 MY XK Range vehicles, within the above VIN range, customers may complain that the front fascia speakers have poor sound quality (excessive high frequency "tinny" sound) with very little mid-range.

On some vehicles it has been found that 31 mm non-premium audio system tweeters have been installed in the facia instead of the correct 65 mm mid-range premium audio system speakers. The size and type of speakers (tweeters) should be checked and if it is found that 31 mm non-premium sound tweeters are installed these should be replaced with the correct 65 mm mid-range premium speakers.

Action:

On a customer complaint basis only, follow the workshop procedure outlined below:

WORKSHOP PROCEDURE

1. Remove facia speaker grilles and check size of speakers installed (should be 65 mm midrange).

2. If correct 65 mm mid-range speakers are installed, re-install facia speaker grills.

3. If 31 mm non-premium tweeters are installed, install new facia 65 mm mid-range speakers (see Workshop Manual, JTIS CD ROM, section: 415-03).
