Rear Quarter Window Regulator Failure - Excessive Bracket Flex - Repair Procedure

Issue:

Some 1999-2000 MY XK convertibles, within the above VIN ranges, may experience customer complaints of failure of the regulator for the rear quarter window. It has been identified that the rear quarter window regulator assembly base plate may be made from a softer than normal metal. Although this material is within specification, it can lead to excessive flexing of the base plate, subsequently leading to the drive cable becoming detached. To eliminate this concern, a reinforcing bracket has been added to the bottom of the assembly to improve stability.

If a regulator fails, replace the assembly with the latest level regulator. The opposite side must also be checked for the latest level component and replaced if necessary.

Action:

In case of a customer complaint of regulator failure on a 1999-2000 MY XK convertable, within the above VIN range, follow the workshop procedure outlined below:

WORKSHOP PROCEDURE

1. Place suitable covers over the floor and seats.

2. Remove the failed rear quarter window regulator assembly (see Workshop Manual, JTIS CD ROM, section 501-11, SRO 86.25.11).

Note:
If only one side rear quarter window regulator has failed, inspect the opposite regulator to see if it is equipped with a reinforcing bracket (Arrowed area in Illustration 1.) If not replace both regulators.

3. Install new rear quarter window regulator(s) (see Workshop Manual, JTIS CD ROM, section: 501-11, SRO 86.25.11).

4. Remove floor and seat covers.
