Replacement Procedure
Issue:
If fault has been identified with the door ajar switch on vehicles within the above VIN range, it is no longer necessary to replace the latch assembly. The door ajar switch is now a serviceable item.
Action:
To install a new door ajar switch, follow the workshop procedure outlined below.
Caution:
On XK range vehicles only, when removing the door latch for access, do not remove the cable from the handle. Displace the handle from the door and remove the lock, cable and handle as an assembly.
1. Remove the affected door latch for access (see Global Technical Reference GTR Workshop Manual, section: 501-14).
Note:
The door latch should remain in the open condition during the switch replacement procedure.
Caution:
Unwrap the harness tape in step 2. Do not cut the tape with a knife.
2. Remove the adhesive tape from the door latch harness.
3. Displace and remove the anti-back-out device from the door latch electrical connector. Note the positions and orientation of the door ajar switch terminals and wire colors in the electrical connector for assembly purposes.
Caution:
When carrying out step 4, be careful not to bend the terminals.
4. Unlatch and remove the switch terminals from the electrical connector.
Caution:
When carrying out step 5, be careful not to damage the switch retaining tang.
5. Press the retaining tang and remove the switch from the door latch (Illustration 1). Note orientation of the switch in the door latch for assembly purposes.
6. Install and seat the new switch to the door latch. Ensure that the switch is installed in the correct orientation and that the locating pegs are engaged (Illustration 2).
7. Install the switch terminals to the correct cavities of electrical connector, ensuring the retention devices engage the terminals.
8. Install and seat the anti-back-out device in the electrical connector.
9. Tape up the harness to the original condition using suitable adhesive tape.
10. Reinstall the door latch (see Global Technical Reference GTR Workshop Manual, section: 501-14).
