NEW PDU SOFTWARE - JTP 627/4 AND JTP 628/3

ISSUE:
New PDU software has been released.
^ JTP 627/4 replaces 627/3.
^ JTP 628/3 replaces 628/2.

JTP 627/4 includes updates to previously released software issues and is an interim release of the S-TYPE software. Due to difficulties in obtaining electrical data not all of the diagnostic software is available at this point. Additionally some of the software can only be provided as provisional due to the number of inconsistencies anticipated. The following CD contents list details all of the software that is available on this CD.

JTP 628/3 has been modified to enable the PDU-PC software to handle the new alphanumeric VIN numbers used by the S-TYPE.

Note:
When entering a VIN for S-TYPE, you must enter the last 6 characters, not just the last 5 numbers. Without the letter, the PDU will interpret the VIN as an XK8.

CM CONFIGURATION

The PDU contains configuration software for a significant number of control modules (CM) on the S-TYPE. The following tables provide data on what level of configuration will be required under differing circumstances.

These CMs will require configuring using the PDU in the case a service replacement is installed.

These control modules will require configuration in the event being fitted as part of an accessory kit.

This control module will require configuring in the event of DTCs C1277 and C1278 (steering wheel angle) being cleared.

VID BLOCK PROGRAMMING

The Vehicle identification block (VID block) is a section of memory within the powertrain control module used to store data about all of the control module configurations on the vehicle. This data is not used by the vehicle itself, and therefore failure to program the VID block will not affect the vehicle's operation. The VID Block data is used by PDU during it's diagnostic and configuration routines to gather data about the vehicle.

PCM ID

The PCM Identifier is a unique code used to synchronize the PCM, Instrument pack and Steering column lock control module. If all three modules are not synchronized then the vehicle will not start.

NEW WARNING MESSAGE

A new general warning message has been added to the start of all diagnostic routines. This message will appear whenever the PDU is switched on or the diagnostic application is reloaded from the base station. Specific warning messages will still be provided within the diagnostic routines when required.

DIAGNOSIS OF CONTINUOUS CRANKING PROBLEMS

The starter test routine for S-TYPE provides diagnostic procedures for continuous cranking problems. Unlike the majority of other applications this routine assumes that the vehicle is not continuously cranking at the time the test starts. The test will operate correctly with either of the following two conditions applied.

^ Starter relay removed

^ Battery supply strap to the starter motor removed

ACTION:
Ensure that this software is installed immediately. Retain the previous issues in a secure place as a backup CD-ROM in the event the new software is damaged. Use JTP 627/4 for diagnosing 1995-97 MY Sedan Range, 1997-ON MY XK8, 1998-ON MY V8 XJ Series and 2000 MY S-TYPE.

Note:
When entering a VIN for S-TYPE, you must enter the last 6 characters, not just the last 5 numbers. Without the letter, the PDU will interpret the VIN as an XK8.
