ECM Replacement - Engine Management Qustionaire - Reporting Requirements
Issue:
Some of the Engine Control Modules (ECM) returned to Jaguar Warranty Returns fall into the 'No Fault Found' category when examined and tested.
Action:
When returning an ECM, be sure to include a completed Engine Management Questionnaire.
This will allow more detailed testing to be performed, particularly in the areas of the reported malfunction.
When diagnosing a vehicle where ECM malfunction is suspected, proceed as follows:
1. Obtain from the customer the fullest possible details of the concern and the conditions under which it occurs, based on the attached Engine Management Questionnaire.
2. Record these details on a photocopy of the Engine Management Questionnaire.
3. Perform a road test, trying to reproduce the customer complaint whenever possible. Use the PDU to check for DTCs.
4. Ensure that all repairs detailed in JTIS or Technical Bulletins have been performed.
5. Use the PDU to read any DTCs applicable to the concern, using Guided Diagnostics where applicable.
6. Make a photocopy of both of the above documents. Retain the originals in the vehicle file.
7. Enclose the photocopies of the completed Engine Management Questionnaire with the removed ECM, when being packed for return to Jaguar Warranty Returns.
Warranty Information:
Normal Warranty claim procedures apply.
In addition, enclose the photocopies of the completed Engine Management Questionnaire with the removed ECM, when being packed for return to Jaguar Warranty Returns. Retain a copy of the completed form in the vehicle file.
Failure to comply with the above requirement may result in a claim being debited and the removed unit being returned to the dealer.
Retain the attached Engine Management Questionnaire as a Master Copy, making working photocopies from it, as required.
