Cover Becomes Detached From CHMSL - Revised CHMSL - Installation Procedure
ISSUE:
Some vehicles may experience a customer complaint of the Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) cover being loosened from the lamp assembly during the drying operation in an automatic car wash.
ACTION:
A revised CHMSL assembly has been introduced (starting with VIN A15347) that has improved retention capabilities and will prevent the cover from becoming detached. In case of a customer complaint on an XK convertible within the above VIN range, install the revised CHMSL.
To replace the CHMSL assembly, follow the Workshop Procedure below:
Note:
The CHMSL cover is supplied in a primed finish. Make sure it is been painted to the correct vehicle specification before installation.
WORKSHOP PROCEDURE
1. Open luggage compartment lid.
2. Remove the fasteners located on the forward edge of the luggage compartment lid liner (Illustration 1).
3. Behind the liner, locate and disconnect the connector for the harness from the CHMSL to the luggage compartment harness (Illustration 2).
4. Remove the blanking plugs in the forward edge of the luggage compartment lid (Illustration 3).
5. Remove the nuts securing the CHMSL to the luggage compartment lid (Illustration 4).
6. Remove the CHMSL from the luggage compartment lid, routing the harness through the opening.
7. Place the CHMSL assembly to one side.
8. Align and install the newly painted CHMSL cover on the revised CHMSL.
9. Route the CHMSL harness through the opening in the luggage compartment lid.
10. Reposition and install the CHMSL on the luggage compartment lid.
11. Tighten the nuts securing the CHMSL to the luggage compartment lid.
12. Insert and fully seat the blanking plugs.
13. Reconnect the CHMSL harness connector.
14. Insert and fully seat the securing fasteners for the luggage compartment lid liner.
15. Close the luggage compartment
