Electrical System Architecture
The XJ Series system architecture features vehicle "multiplexing." Multiplexing allows for simplified wiring harnesses while providing greater flexibility in programming market variants. Two data networks are used in the system: a controller area network (CAN) for the engine, drive train and related systems, and a standard corporate protocol network (SCP) for the body systems. Any vehicle subsystem depicted on the figures with the CAN or SCP included uses data derived from the network or transmits data via the network to achieve control. Messages for both networks are cataloged in Description and Operation under Vehicle Multiplex Systems, CAN / SCP. When appropriate, the user will be referred to Description and Operation by a note on the Data information. Description and Operation In addition to the two networks, the XJ Series uses two serial data buses (ISO) for diagnostics, for the security system and for the programming of certain control modules.
The XJ Series uses both power and logic grounds; however, it does not use a common logic ground stud connection as in previous Sedan vehicles.
