Pinpoint Test A




Pinpoint test A: P0740





TEST A: RETRIEVE DTCS

NOTE: Battery and or ECM disconnection prior to scanning will erase all data, ensure that the correct DTC is present

Connect scan tool
Record DTC(s), freeze frame data and
GO to [A2]





A2: CHECK TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID RESISTANCE
With, EM062 disconnected, measure the resistance between EM062/017 and EM062/038.
^ Is the resistance >4.0 and <8.0 Ohms?

Yes
GO to [A6]

No
GO to [A3]





A3: CHECK HARNESS SIGNAL CONTINUITY
With EM062 and GB001 disconnected, measure the resistance between GB001/011 and EM062/017.
^ Is the resistance < 0.5 Ohms?

Yes
GO to [A4]

No
Inspect EM062, EM044 and GB001 for corrosion, bent/pushed back pins or locate harness. Repair as necessary and test the system for normal operation.





A4: CHECK HARNESS +VE CONTINUITY
With EM062 and GB001 disconnected, measure the resistance between GB001/006 and EM062/038
^ Is the resistance < 0.5 Ohms?

Yes
GO to [A5]

No
Inspect EM062, EM044 and GB001 for corrosion, bent/pushed back pins or locate harness. Repair as necessary and test the system for normal operation.





A5: CHECK FOR SHORT TO B-F
With EM062 and EM061 disconnected, measure the voltage between EM062/038 and EM061/030.
^ 0V?

Yes
GO to [A6]

No
Inspect EM062,EM063,EM044 and EM061 for corrosion, bent/pushed back pins or locate harness. Repair as necessary and test the system for normal operation.

A6: END
Perform appropriate service drive cycle and check for the presence of DTC.
^ Has the fault code cleared?

Yes
STOP

No
