4L80-E Automatic Transmission
REMOVALNOTE: The temperature sensor is integral with the internal harness.
1. Disconnect the battery ground lead.
WARNING: TRANSMISSION FLUID MAY CAUSE SEVERE BURNS, ENSURE THAT ALL SAFETY PROCEDURES ARE OBSERVED.
2. Raise the vehicle on a suitable lift.
- Carefully remove the drain plug and drain the transmission fluid.
3. Remove fluid pan fixings (22).
- Remove the fluid pan and all traces of gasket material.
NOTE: M5 fixing
4. Release the fixing (1 ) INPUT speed sensor securing bracket and pull the sensor clear.
- Disconnect harness multiplug.
NOTE: M6 fixing
5. Release the fixing (1 ) OUTPUT speed sensor securing bracket and pull the sensor clear.
- Disconnect harness multiplug.
6. Disconnect transmission harness multiplug EM046.
7. Remove selector cable abutment bracket fixings (2) and reposition the bracket for access to the multiplug.
8. Remove harness multiplug retaining clip.
- Push the multiplug into the transmission casing to release.
- Discard 'O' rings (2).
9. Disconnect pressure regulator (5) and solenoid (3) connectors.
10. Release the internal harness from the retaining clips and remove the harness.
INSTALLATION
1. Fitting a new internal harness is the reverse of the removal procedure noting the following.
2. Lubricate EM046 'O' rings with transmission fluid prior to fitting.
3. Tighten selector cable abutment fixings (2).
NOTE: M5 fixing
4. Tighten the INPUT speed sensor securing bracket fixing.
NOTE: M6 fixing
5. Tighten the OUTPUT speed sensor securing bracket fixing.
6. Using a new gasket, install the fluid pan and tighten the fixings (22) as specified.
NOTE: Ensure extreme cleanliness and never reuse transmission fluid.
7. Refer to General Procedures for fluid fill.
