Jaguar Vibration Analyzer - PDU 6000

INTRODUCTION

Software Version PDU 6000, together with the Jaguar Vibration Analyzer (JVA), has been introduced to provide PDU with the capability of diagnosing driveline vibrations. The Vibration User Guide supplied with this CD-ROM provides help and information on how to use the tool, and should be stored at the rear of the PDU User Guide. The recently released PDU multimedia training CD-ROM also provides a training exercise on the use of the JVA.

REPAIR PROCEDURES

NOTE:
JVA road testing requires two technicians. Technician A must maintain road speed, transmission gear range and engine RPM, so the PDU can capture vibration information. Technician B must capture up to 6 trace patterns in the PDU memory which will be printed out on the multimedia PC using PDU Capture Version 2.0. Refer to the Jaguar Vibration Analyzer guide for additional information.

When PDU diagnoses a driveline vibration it will provide a fault description similar to that shown below:

1st Order Wheel Vibration

Repair Procedure 11

The top line indicates the nature of the fault, the second line refers to a list of recommended Repair Procedures for each fault type. These Repair Procedure are contained in the diagnostic charts.

CONTACTING THE JAGUAR TECHNICAL HOTLINE

Many of the Repair Procedures may direct you to contact Jaguar Technical Hotline for further advice. In all instances, before contacting Technical Support you should have printed all of the waveforms selected for analysis, together with the composite waveform if it was provided and a copy of the fault report.

Repair Procedures for Problems Located using the Jaguar Vibration Analyzer

Introduction

The following details the recommended Procedures for locating and rectifying vibration problems diagnosed with the Jaguar Vibration Analyzer. Before beginning a PDU vibration test, the following items should be visually inspected:

^ Wheels/Tires ^ Shock Absorbers

^ Road Springs ^ Exhaust Mounts

^ Engine/Transmission Mounts ^ Front and Rear Suspension Bushes

^ Vehicle Ride Height ^ Hand Brake Adjustment

If any of these areas have problems, then they must be rectified and the customer's concern reconfirmed prior to testing with PDU. When PDU has performed an analysis it will provide a fault ticket indicating one of the following Procedures as shown.

Procedures 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07

01/02/03/07 Unable to perform analysis

PDU is unable to form a composite waveform from the six samples selected.

Before PDU can analyze selected waveforms it combines them into a single composite waveform, if this cannot be performed successfully then no analysis is possible. A composite waveform cannot be formed if the variation in road speed or engine speed across the six selected samples is too great or the selected samples are not all recorded in the same gear position. To overcome this problem select six waveforms for analysis where the road speed does not vary by more than 2.4 MPH, the engine speed does not vary by more then 100 rpm and the gear positions are all the same.

04 Vehicle within Specification

The analysis has been completed successfully and aft vibration levels have been found to be within production specifications. If the customer's concern is still present contact Jaguar Technical Hotline for further advice.

O5 Vehicle Just Below Upper Specification Limit

The analysis has been completed successfully and all vibration levels have been found to be within production specifications. However, a vibration has been noticed that is very close to the production limits.

06 Further Investigation Required

PDU has not been able to diagnose a problem. This may be due to vibrations being present at unrecognized frequencies or transducer orientation/location combinations selected that PDU cannot diagnose. Reposition the JVA transducer and retest the vehicle.
