Lower Steering Column

Lower Steering Column

Major Components
The lower steering column is a handed assembly.

It incorporates a column to toe-board gaiter.

There are no serviceable components.

No setting or adjustment of the column is required.

A telescopic slider, dust seal and an NVH damper are incorporated.

The telescopic slider allows 20 mm of dynamic movement.

It retracts further for installation or an accident situation.

The lower universal joint connects to the steering rack.

The upper universal joint is connected to the upper steering column.

They may be installed in any orientation on the splines.

It is essential to disconnect the lower universal joint before removing the engine or front suspension cross beam.

Should the telescopic slider mechanism become separated, for any reason, it must not be reassembled.
