Front Seat Fuses Blowing - Chafed Seat Harness - Repair Procedure

Issue:
Some XK8 vehicles, within the above VIN range, may experience blown fuses that protect the front seat mechanisms. The two most likely locations for harness chafing are:

1. At the point where the seat harness enters the seat back (above the squab pivot point). In this location, the harness may chafe against the seat frame when the seat reclining mechanism is operated.

2. Where the seat harness emerges from the seat control module. The harness is looped before being secured to the seat frame by a tie-strap. In this location, the harness may rub against the edge of the rise & fall motor gearbox, particularly when the seat is occupied and in its lowest position.

Action:
In case of a customer complaint on a 1997-99 MY XK8 vehicle, within the above VIN range, perform the following:

1. Repair the harness as necessary to Jaguar repair standards, using items from the wiring harness repair kit.

2. After repairing the harness, protect the area at risk by applying a 100 mm length of harness protective tubing.
