Removal

This procedure is ONLY relevant when fitting a NEW cable

1. Disconnect the battery ground lead.
2. Remove the windshield wiper & arm assembly
3. Remove the plenum chamber finisher.

4. Disconnect the throttle cable from the electronic throttle assembly quadrant
Rotate the throttle quadrant to release the cable nipple

5. Displace the outer cable from the abutment bracket
Release the throttle cable locking nut

6. Release the grommet from the plenum chamber closing plate & route the cable/grommet through the aperture

7. Remove the throttle cable from the bulkhead securing clip

8. Route the cable through the water deflector bracket
9. Ensure that the driver's seat is fully rearward
10. Remove the 'A' post lower trim pad

11. Disconnect throttle cable from pedal

NOTE: Operate throttle pedal to gain access

Remove throttle cable to pedal split pin
Remove cable retaining sleeve

12. From under the hood, remove the cable from the vehicle

Installation
1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. However, particular attention must be paid to the following

2. Refit the throttle cable & adjust the locknuts to achieve the specified gap between the quadrant & abutment as shown
Tighten the locknut without altering the setting or introducing twist into the cable outer

3. Condition the cable
Operate the throttle pedal through FULL travel for a minimum of 20 (twenty) cycles

4. Recheck the quadrant/stop relationship to ensure contact without slack or tension

CAUTION: Under no circumstances may the quadrant be held clear of the throttle stop by cable tension

Adjust the locknuts to suit

5. Check the kickdown setting to ensure that it is within specification & reset if required as detailed from step #6.

6. Connect scantool
Read 'Current Powertrain Data'
Display PID 120F (pedal demand)

7. Push the throttle pedal until light contact is made with the kickdown switch

NOTE: Ensure that contact with the switch does not result in switch movement

8. Specified PID value = 3.66 to 3.76 volts (2F9 + or - A hex)
If the value is outside these limits, proceed to step #9
If the value is within these limits, no further action is required
9. Pull the carpet from around the kickdown switch
10. Disconnect the kickdown switch flying lead connector (to avoid cable twist as the switch is rotated)

11. Adjust the kickdown switch to the value as defined in step # 8
12. Reconnect the kickdown flying lead connector & verify the setting
