Variable Valve Timing Solenoid: Service and Repair


Removal
1. Open the engine compartment and fit paintwork protection sheets.
2. Open the driver's door, or both doors if necessary, to allow the side glass to drop. Ensure that the doors remain open until after the battery has been disconnected.





3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
Remove the battery cover.





4. Disconnect the VVT solenoid connector.





5. Remove the two bolts which secure the VVT to the timing cover.





6. Pull the VVT assembly clear and discard the O-ring.

Installation
1. Installing a new VVT solenoid assembly is the reverse of the removal procedure. Install a new O-ring, lubricated with petroleum jelly.





2. Install and tighten the two bolts to 10-14 Nm.
3. Remove the paintwork protection sheets and close the engine compartment cover.
4. Connect the battery and install the battery cover.
