Operation

A signal from the ECM energizes the solenoids to allow the passage of pressurized oil to each of the inlet camshaft drives. This allows the ECM to vary the relative timing of the inlet valves by a single stepped amount.

A VVT solenoid is mounted at the extreme front of each cylinder head.

NOTE: With the hood open and the engine running from idle to approximately 3000 rpm, the VVT solenoids may be heard to operate.
