C. Coolant Flushing Procedure

Required on all vehicles within the VIN Range 001036-005957 for which the Heater Performance Test indicates a satisfactory condition.

Required on all vehicles within the VIN Range 005958-010342.

Consists of the following:

^ Drain and discard existing coolant.

^ Flush cooling system with plain water, twice.

1. Place a suitable drain pan under the radiator and remove the drain plug. Allow the coolant to drain as much as possible. Wash off any coolant spilled on the body of the vehicle.

WARNING:
The coolant will be hot.

2. Remove the thermostat housing cap and the coolant reservoir cap. Fill the cooling system with clean water until the level stabilizes at the top of the thermostat housing neck.

3. Reinstall the reservoir and thermostat housing caps.

4. Press red arrow on the Climate Control panel repeatedly until display changes to HI. Turn the fan knob clockwise until the fan speed bar graph shows the maximum fan speed. Run the engine at approximately 2000 rpm for 5 minutes with the transmission selector in P or N. Switch off engine.

5. Remove the coolant reservoir cap.

6. Raise the vehicle and drain the coolant.

7. Install the drain plug and lower vehicle.

8. Remove the thermostat housing cap and the coolant reservoir cap. Fill the cooling system with clean water until the level stabilizes at the top of the thermostat housing neck. Reinstall the reservoir and thermostat housing caps.

9. Press red arrow on the Climate Control panel repeatedly until display changes to HI. Turn the fan knob clockwise until the fan speed bar graph shows the maximum fan speed. Run the engine at approximately 2000 rpm for 15 seconds with the transmission selector in P or N. Switch off engine.

10. Remove the coolant reservoir cap.

WARNING:
The cooling system will be pressurized and hot.

11. Raise the vehicle and drain the coolant.

WARNING:
The coolant will be hot.

12. Reinstall the drain plug.

13. Reinstall the generator cooling duct. Torque the securing screw to 6 Nm (4 lb ft). Lower the vehicle.

14. Refer to section D and refill the cooling system with antifreeze/coolant.
